Where Is The Falling Skies News?

In our most recent podcast episode posted 02/19, we discussed the lack of Falling Skies news over this long hiatus.  Many of our listeners chimed in via Facebook and twitter, about what they thought TNT should be doing to maintain interest in the show over these extended breaks of approximately ten months.

Most of the suggestions centered around longer seasons, more behind the scenes or other videos, and more interaction with the fans via social networks.  Many of us felt that TNT did a better job engaging fans between the first and second season, and even then, their ratings still dropped by a significant amount.  Perhaps TNT felt that spent too much time or payroll on attempting to utilize the social media outlets via the last hiatus without the desired results.

I took a look of the ratings for season one and season two over at Wikipedia.  The second season saw a 21.76% drop in ratings, that's 1.042 million less viewers per episode.  The average ratings for the ten episodes of season one was 4.788 million viewers, while the average ratings of the ten episodes of season two was 3.746 million viewers.  If the ratings decline in a similar fashion for season 3, the average would be down to 2.93 million viewers per episode.

Since 2013 began, the Falling Skies Facebook Page and FallingSkiesTNT on twitter have posted a few questions about previous seasons, a few pictures,  but no info about the upcoming season three which will probably debut on Father's Day 2013.

The latest update on FallingSkies.com is a blog post from Collin Cunningham from November 1, 2012 where he suggested that we need to know the name Rob Gray, the Falling Skies Production Designer.  The latest update on from Falling Skies producer/director Greg Beeman's website is a blog post from September 30, 2012, where he answers many fan questions.

Drew Roy talks Falling Skies at VES Awards

Drew Roy (Hal Mason) talked briefly about Falling Skies at the Visual Effects Society Awards last week.  Collider posted the short video below of their interview with Roy.  He speaks about Falling Skies Season 3, the casting of Doug Jones, his character, his schedule filming Falling Skies, and more.

At the end of season two finale, we learned that Roy's character, Hal Mason, has an alien implant inside of him which appeared to change his demeanor.  We will have to see if this will have a lasting impact on him and the 2nd Mass.  Tom Mason, Hal's father, had an implant that was removed in season 2, and it did not seem to affect Tom afterwards.

Falling Skies a Game of Risk

During the initial invasion the "mother ships" brought millions of skitters to earth and they quickly killed 90% of the population. This is when some Falling Skies mythos that isn't touch on in the show all that often begins.

Those mother ships and skitters left the planet, presumably to conquer and enslave another world. This is part of the story that has only been mentioned a couple of times. This strategy of bringing a large force and destroying your enemies defenses and leaving a much smaller force to maintain control seems to be basic military strategy. It is also the strategy many use while playing the board game Risk.

These overlords or perhaps their rulers are playing an intergalactic game of domination. From what we've seen on earth, they play this game well.

The new species of alien may bring some Risk cards to the 2nd Mass and provide some much needed reinforcements. If not, the 2nd Mass and the rest of humanity may be wiped off the map.

The New Species of Extra-Terrestrial on Falling Skies

Season 2 of Falling Skies ended with the arrival of a new species of extra-terrestrial.  What will this mean for the ragged band of survivors in Charleston?  Has a new ally or a new enemy arrived?  The answer to that question is sure to shape the things to come for The 2nd Mass.

From the few seconds of screen time, this species reveals a space suit/body armor complete with helmet, that was reminiscent of Snake Eyes from G.I. Joe and maybe a little Batman.  Perhaps this alien is from a warrior species; whereas, the Espheni (aka Over Lord or Fish Heads) are slavers bent on conquering planets.

From the brief comments from Ben Mason in the season finale, it appears that the 2nd Mass destroyed a weapon intended to stop this alien from reaching earth.  The old adage says that an enemy of my enemy is a friend.  Perhaps, Tom, Weaver and the rest of the 2nd Mass can work with this warrior species of aliens to begin to reclaim earth.

Adding another group of ETs to Falling Skies will likely create more drama and expand the shows mythos into a larger universe.  Perhaps season three we will see many more revelations about the fish heads, the skitters and as well as this new species.
